Brisbane crafts

My aunty Carmel and her sister Erin are both home ec teachers, and therefore very crafty! They took me too our equivalent of hobbycraft; a shop called lincraft! 2 floors of heaven!

I found some amazing fabric. My favourite was the cow print!

I also picked up some buttons and a beautiful scrapbook.

Have been doing a little on my cross stitch. Erin is amazing at it and Carmel's house is full of her work. Will take some photos to post.

Black and White Corsage

As I mentioned, I'm off on holiday next week and up to Tom's at the weekend so this will be my last post for a few weeks. This evening I made another corsage. This one is made out of the beautiful black and white rose fabric I bought the other week from Beyond Fabrics and an old H&M checked dress I cut up! The button I do believe was a spare from some item of clothing or other, so it's very nearly an upcycled piece!

This one only took an hour to make (in the time it took me to watch candy cabs haha) which is good to know! When I get back I think I'll try and do some more elaborate ones, perhaps with ribbon too as I just came across a whole drawer full!
Hopefully I can happen upon some crafting shops over in Brisbane. My aunty is a home ec teacher so hopefully she can teach me a thing or two!

Batman Apron

Today is my besties birthday and I finally got to give her the homemade pressies I made for her!

A cushion with hearts made of different coloured buttons:

The back, half floral, half gingham:

The present of course I was dying to give her, was the batman apron! I saw on a blog someone had made some superhero aprons, but wasn't keen on the design so I made up my own pattern!

Katie loved it, and here's the birthday girl showing off her superhero skills in the kitchen:

My friend Dan has now requested he wants a Wolverine one!

The dragon is complete!!

I've FINALLY finished the dragon! Thank god! He has been one of the most taxing toys to make. But I'm just going to accept the fact he's not perfect, but that's what homemade is all about right?

As I mentioned before, I'm taking part in a charity yarnbombing event to raise money for the martlets hospice, as well as give blankets to AIDS orphans if Africa.  I've started making my squares this week when I've had some time here and there:

Each of this is done slightly differently... the grey is all knit, the pink, knit a row, purl a row, and the cream is k1, p1. After these I'll start doing some more variation such as stripes and patterns. If you'd like to sponsor me I've set up a just giving page here.

Haven't had much time to craft this week, especially as I've been quite poorly. Haven't even done any cross stitch!! This morning however, my friend Alice came over and wanted me to show her how to make a simple cushion cover with some beautiful fabric she bought.

She did a fab job, and the end result looked brilliant!

Cushion covers are so easy to make if you do an open seamed back. There is a great youtube tutorial here but basically just allow 1 inch seam allowance, for the front, and for the back a 1inch seam allowance for the width, and 4 inches for the length.
